 Objective:
• Students will be able to identify and use adverbs in sentences to add more information about place, time, manner, cause, or degree.
 2   Materials:
• Handout with examples of adverbs
• Sentences for students to identify and circle the adverbs
• Whiteboard and markers
• Pencils and paper
 3 Procedure:
• Begin by asking students if they know what an adverb is. Write the definition on the whiteboard: "An adverb is a word that adds more information about place, time, manner, cause, or degree to a verb, adjective, phrase or another adverb."
• Provide students with a handout that lists examples of adverbs. Discuss the different types of adverbs and give examples of each type.
• Provide students with a worksheet containing sentences with adverbs. Instruct them to circle the adverb in each sentence.
• As a class, go over the worksheet and discuss the different adverbs found in the sentences.
• On the whiteboard, write a few simple sentences and ask students to add an adverb to each sentence. For example, "She walked to the store" could become "She quickly walked to the store."
• Divide students into pairs and give them a list of simple sentences. Instruct them to write a new sentence for each one, using an adverb to add more information. Have each pair share their sentences with the class.
• As a closing activity, ask students to write a short paragraph about a topic of their choice, incorporating at least three adverbs.

Lesson Plan: Naming Words and Action Words in "Planting"

 1 Objectives: 
       Students will identify naming words (nouns) and action words (verbs) in a poem.
• Students will learn the names of different seeds and grains found in the kitchen.
• Students will be able to bring samples of seeds/grains and describe their properties.
 Materials:
• "Planting" poem
• Chart paper and markers
• Samples of different seeds and grains (e.g. rice, wheat, oats, corn, lentils, chickpeas)Ziploc bags or small containers to hold samples
 Introduction (5 minutes)
• Begin by asking students if they have ever planted a seed or grown a plant. Ask them what things plants need to grow (e.g. water, sunlight, soil). Tell them that today, they will be reading a poem about planting a seed.
 Reading the Poem (10 minutes)
• Read the poem "Planting" aloud to the class. Encourage students to listen carefully for words that name things (nouns) and words that indicate actions (verbs).
 Identifying Nouns and Verbs (10 minutes)
• Write the following sentence on the chart paper: "I took a little seed one day, About a month ago." Ask students to identify the nouns and verbs in the sentence and write them on the chart paper. Encourage them to think about what the words are naming or what they are describing. Repeat this activity with other sentences from the poem.
 Learning About Seeds and Grains (15 minutes)
